Oxford Institute for Ethics in AI – Visiting Fellowships 2026/27

The Visiting Fellowships at the University of Oxford’s Institute for Ethics in AI offer an exceptional opportunity for academics and practitioners to conduct critical research on the ethical implications of artificial intelligence. Hosted within the Philosophy Faculty, fellows join a vibrant, multidisciplinary community dedicated to shaping the future of AI for the benefit of humanity.

Fellows are expected to pursue an independent research project and actively contribute to the intellectual life of the Institute by participating in workshops, seminars, and public engagement activities. This is a chance to conduct deep research while collaborating with leading minds at Oxford.

Financial Benefits

  • Stipend: A taxable stipend of £10,000 is provided for the term.
  • Travel and Accommodation: Up to £1,500 is available for travel and accommodation expenses.
  • Workspace: Fellows are given a shared office space within the University of Oxford.
  • Full Access: Includes access to university libraries and other resources, along with a visiting membership to a university college.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Field: Open to researchers and practitioners with expertise in fields relevant to the ethics of AI, including philosophy, computer science, law, sociology, and public policy.
  • Research Project: Applicants must have a well-defined research project to be undertaken during the fellowship.
  • Career Stage: The fellowship is open to individuals at all career stages, from early-career researchers to senior professors and established practitioners.
  • Residency: Fellows are expected to be resident in Oxford for the duration of the term (typically one academic term).

The application requires a CV, a detailed research proposal (up to 1,500 words), a writing sample, and the names of two referees. Submissions are made through the University of Oxford’s online recruitment system.
