United Nations 64th Geneva Graduate Study Programme 2026

The Graduate Study Programme is the longest-running educational initiative of the United Nations, now in its 64th year. Organized by the United Nations Office at Geneva, this intensive two-week summer seminar provides an opportunity for postgraduate students to deepen their understanding of the United Nations and “International Geneva” in the context of a specific theme. The theme for the 2026 programme will focus on the rapidly evolving field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and new technologies.

Program Components

  • Intensive Seminar: The program consists of lectures by senior officials from the UN, the Geneva-based specialized agencies, and other international organizations.
  • Interactive Learning: Participants will engage in presentations, group work on a programme-related project, and visits to international institutions.
  • Networking: The programme offers a unique chance to connect with a diverse group of international students and UN experts.
  • Certificate: Participants receive a certificate upon successful completion of the programme.

Financial Information

  • Participation Fee: The programme is free of charge for selected candidates.
  • Expenses Not Covered: Participants are responsible for their own travel, accommodation, visa, and living expenses in Geneva. The UN does not provide financial assistance. Applicants are encouraged to seek funding from their universities or governmental institutions.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: Be enrolled in a Master’s degree, a postgraduate degree, or a PhD programme at the time of application. Applicants in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree may be considered in exceptional cases if they can demonstrate a compelling reason.
  • Age: Be between 22 and 32 years of age.
  • Language: Be fluent in spoken and written English. Knowledge of French is an asset but not a requirement.
  • First-Time Participation: Applicants must not have previously participated in the programme.

    • A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) / Resume.
    • A statement of purpose (motivation letter).
