The Microsoft Imagine Cup is a premier global competition for student founders, challenging them to develop innovative, AI-powered solutions that address real-world problems. It provides a platform for students to turn their bold ideas into viable startups, offering mentorship, resources, and significant prize money. The competition is structured into two paths: “Launch” for early-stage ideas and “Scale” for more developed startups, culminating in a World Championship.
Financial Benefits
- World Champion (Scale Path): The winning team receives $100,000 USD, a mentorship call with Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, and opportunities for deeper partnership with Microsoft for Startups.
- Launch Path Winner: The winner of the Launch path will be awarded $50,000 USD.
- Regional Finals: First-place teams at Regional Finals receive $15,000 USD, second place $5,000 USD, and third place $1,000 USD.
- Azure Credits: Participants can unlock up to $1,000 USD in free Azure credits and tools to develop their solutions.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Age: Must be at least 18 years of age as of September 30, 2025.
- Student Status: Must be an enrolled student at an accredited educational institution (high-school or college/university equivalent) at any time between September 30, 2025, and May 31, 2026.
- Team Size: Teams can consist of up to four eligible students.
- Technology Requirement: The product must be built with and require at least two (2) or more Microsoft AI services to operate.
- Language: All submission materials, including pitch decks and videos, must be in English.
- Geographic Restrictions: Participants must be from a country not prohibited by US export regulations.
Application Process
- Registration: All team members must create an account and register on ImagineCup.com.
- Minimum Viable Product (MVP) Submission Deadline: January 5, 2026.
- Semifinals Round: February 10, 2026 – March 31, 2026.
- World Championship Round: April 2026 – May 2026.
- Submission: Entries are submitted through the Imagine Cup website, following instructions for either the Launch or Scale path.
