World Bank Summer Internship Program 2026

The World Bank Internship Program (BIP) offers highly motivated graduate students a chance to improve their skills as well as the experience of working in an international environment. Interns generally find the experience to be rewarding and interesting. The internship provides an opportunity to contribute to the World Bank’s mission of ending extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity.

Program Benefits

  • Professional Experience: Gain hands-on experience in international development, working on research, data analysis, and policy formulation.
  • Compensation: The World Bank pays an hourly salary to all interns.
  • Travel Allowance: Where applicable, provides an allowance towards travel expenses (up to a specific limit).
  • Networking: Access to seminars, networking events, and the diverse community of professionals at the World Bank HQ in Washington, D.C., or country offices.
  • Duration: The internship lasts for a minimum of 4 weeks, typically between May and September for the Summer cohort.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Academic Status: Candidates must be enrolled in a full-time graduate study program (Master’s or PhD) at the time of application and during the internship.
  • Returning Student Rule: You must plan to return to school to complete your degree after the internship. (Graduates who have already finished their studies are not eligible).
  • Fields of Study: Economics, Finance, Human Development (Public Health, Education, Nutrition), Social Sciences (Anthropology, Sociology), Agriculture, Environment, Private Sector Development, and other related fields.
  • Language: Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese, or Chinese is desirable.
