Alexander von Humboldt International Climate Protection Fellowship

The International Climate Protection Fellowship is a prestigious program offered by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. It targets prospective leaders from non-European developing and transition countries who are working in the field of climate protection or climate-related resource conservation. The fellowship enables them to conduct a one-year research-related project of their own choice in Germany, alongside a host of their choosing.

Program Benefits

  • Monthly Fellowship Amount: Between €2,170 and €2,670 depending on career stage (postdoc vs. experienced researcher).
  • Duration: One year (12 months), with an option to extend by up to 3 months.
  • Additional Financial Support:
    • Allowances for research costs, travel expenses, and language courses.
    • Family allowances for accompanying spouses and children.
    • Europe allowance for a research stay at an institute in another European country.
  • Mentorship: Fellows work closely with a host at a German university or research institution.
  • Network: Access to the prestigious Humboldt network of over 30,000 academics worldwide.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Target Group: Prospective leaders from non-European developing and transition countries (see the DAC list of ODA recipients).
  • Career Stage:
    • Postdocs: PhD completed less than 4 years ago.
    • Experienced Researchers: At least 4 years of professional experience; degree completed less than 12 years ago.
  • Project: A project plan focused on climate protection or climate-related resource conservation.
  • Language: Proficiency in English or German.
  • Host: Must have a confirmation from a host in Germany.
