Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) 2026 – Window 1

The Joint Japan/World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) is open to citizens of certain developing countries with relevant professional experience and a history of supporting their countries’ development efforts who are applying to a master degree program in a development-related topic.

Program Benefits

  • Full Tuition: Covers the cost of completing the master’s degree.
  • Monthly Stipend: A monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses (amount varies by country).
  • Travel: Round-trip airfare from the home country to the host university.
  • Health Insurance: Basic medical insurance.
  • Travel Allowance: $500 travel allowance for each trip.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Citizenship: Be a national of a World Bank member developing country.
  • Health: Be in good health.
  • Education: Hold a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent university degree) earned at least 3 years prior to the application deadline.
  • Experience: Have 3 years or more of recent development-related work experience after earning a Bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree.
  • Employment: Be employed in development-related work in a paid full-time position at the time of submitting the scholarship application.
  • Admission: For Window 1, applicants must be admitted unconditionally (except for funding) to one of the specific JJ/WBGSP Participating Programs designated for this window.

Application Process

  • Application Period (Window 1): January 15 – February 27, 2026.
  • How to Apply:
    1. Apply to one of the participating master’s programs first.
    2. Once admitted (or if you have a strong application), apply for the scholarship via the World Bank’s online application system.
  • Required Documents: CV, two professional references, proof of employment, certified diploma/transcripts, and the unconditional letter of admission.
